Giorgos Moutafis

Giorgos Moutafis was born in 1979 in Orestiada, Greece.
He began his studies in music when he was a child and took lessons in piano, theory, brass, choir, et al.
Presently he lives and works in Athens, Greece as an instructor/educator giving lessons in Jazz piano, theory and music technology.
He performs with numerous bands at events and festivals throughout the country playing piano, organ and flugelhorn.
Giorgos has specialized in music technology, as well.
He has studied Contemporary Theory (harmony – counterpoint – composition ), Piano with Makis Tsagkalidis at the “Jazz Art” Conservatory G. Fakanas and Music Technology which is his personal favorite.
He is a founding member of ‘The Groove Elation Organ Quartet’. The musicians of the Quartet have created innovative and experimental compositions of their own.
Giorgos composes, arranges, edits and records music with his own band ‘The Giorgos Moutafis Project’.
He has appeared in the U.S.A., in Germany, in France, in Amsterdam, in Poland and in Greece with various ensembles . These unique experiences of performing with such a vast diversity of musicians in so many countries, have motivated and stimulated him and his musical compositions immensely .
His major influences include by Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, Michel Petrucciani, Pat Metheny, Jimmy Smith, Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Coltrane, Kraftwerk and The Future Sound of London.
